Previous posts always had a Ghibli character in the drawing/painting. Now i focus heavily on landscape and wanted to go back to Castle in the Sky! Lemme explain my process on how I did it. Quick and easy since it was purely pencil.
nd photo is a basic outline of the cliffs and trying to get the width of each section accurate as possible.
rd and 4th photo is carefully looking at the details of the reference. Noting where the texture is key is more towards the bottom of the cliff then shading it with lines. The direction of the lines are a key as this cliff is at an angle. Say like 45 degrees from the bottom left of the page. I used a 4h pencil for now.
th photo i darkened that bottom cliff but did not add the shading that the cliff in the front brings.
th photo i realized I needed to darken to get the lighting more accurate as soon as I shaded lighty on the rest of the cliff.
th photo i added the HB pencil to the bottom of the cliff for starker contrast carefully then fully shaded it by sketching lighter with the HB pencil in the 8th photo
th and 10th photo, added the mining houses in the bottom below. Now this particular area i didn't do accurate of. Notice the roofs that are flat or curved. That's what i kept lighter since the sunlight is more prevalent than the walls which i kept dark completely. Now I outline the top of the cliffs where the greenery occurs.
th and 12th photo i finnicked around with the lighting. Realized it was too dark and lightly erased the darker sections.
th photo is the end result so you don't have to scroll up. Thanks for reading and hope you got something out of it!
