╭─────────╮
hey guys!
I know I don’t usually post
so frequently, but SURPRISE!
I’m here with another blog! When
I saw the #subjectlove challenge,
my inner nerd was SCREAMING, I knew
I had to begin writing straight away!
Of course, I didn’t plan on writing so
much but I think the blog speaks for itself.
whoops! :’)
By the way, did you guys
notice what I did with the title
“why I love English” get it?
‘love’ cause it’s almost
Valentine’s day...
Okay I’m sorry, I’ll stop.
╰─────────╯

English was always just another subject on my timetable, that was, until I met my 9th grade English teacher, a true angel from heaven. And thus, that day English replaced my best friend.
just kidding.
but like it almost did.
Although, I have a sort of love-hate relationship with English. Some days I’ll be typing away in my own thoughts and other days the scene’s a little different, and involves me staying up at 2am, downing my fourth cuppa coffee trying to etch up an essay on “why broccoli is healthy”
But last year, English and I became real close buds. For the first time, I learned how to write a story, and not just a story with a beginning and end but all that juicy stuff that goes in between. I learned how to experiment with different words, language techniques and how to analyse a piece of text right down to the nitty gritty details and I probably sound like a TOTAL nerd right now but I was having the time of my life! :’)

My favourite thing about English is that there are SOO many transferable skills, unlike maths where I sometimes question “when the hell am I gonna need to know what the area of a trapezium is?”
Outside of the classroom, you’ll always find me in my journal writing short stories, song lyrics and small bits of poetry here and there. I think I can say with confidence that all the skills I learned during English class have been put to good use :’)
English taught me how to express my self fully and as accurately as possible, something that I used to struggle with greatly. I love the writing skills that grow stronger day by day, and the public speaking that we’re pushed to exercise every so often. If it wasn’t for that, I would still be hiding somewhere deep beneath my tortoise shell :shell: .

I love experimenting with words and different language techniques! I swear, I spend half of my days trying to create clear metaphors for my writing content, and the other half coming up with bad literary puns. Metaphors and similes, I find, are some of the most profound ways to get an idea across to an audience. I’m always amazed to see what other people can pull from the depths of their minds.
Friendships are like the earth’s plates?
My emotions are like a dripping faucet or a breaking dam? There’s no in between?
The tears stood in her eyes?

My love of reading, writing and everything in between starts and ends with English, a subject that has consistently been my favorite throughout the years. At one point, I stopped BSing my papers, ditching my mechanical approach for a far more emotional one.
Somewhere along the way of the 4 years of schooling I’ve endured, English really grew on me, it came to be the subject that I immediately drifted towards when it came time to tackle homework or assignments.
Nowadays, when I pick up a book I don’t just read it, I appreciate it. Some texts I’ve read and reread so thoroughly that I have fallen in love with their individual fragments of phrasing.
And now, every time a teacher mentions one of his or her favorite texts, I feel compelled to read it, or at least write down the name for future reference. If some piece of writing is strong enough to win over an English teacher, then goddamnit, it must be special!

So my friends, it looks like we have reached the end. I know today’s post is a lil different from my usual ‘how to’ blogs but I hope you enjoyed reading nonetheless :’)
And fear not, I will return again with another ‘how to’ post soon! If you have any ideas let me know!
Oh and have a lovely valentine’s day whether it’s with that special someone or just you and your besties and a great, big tub of chocolate ice cream :icecream:
love,
pri
