more guitars to widen his collection and give

giving sangyeop one specific style of guitar is a pretty difficult and fun challenge as he excels in many different music styles and has dabbled in them throughout his music career so far. another difficulty in choosing roots from the fact that i went into this blog knowing nothing about guitars (so please excuse me if i get stuff wrong in here, oops!) but after lots of google searches and youtube videos i ended up choosing for him a yamaha fs-ta transacoustic guitar.

my main point of reference when trying to select a guitar that would suit sangyeop well was his solo album yeopx2. all of the songs on yeopx2 are on my comfy playlist and if you listen through the album it's easy to see why. every song on yeopx2 has a very chill, mellow, relaxing coffee shop vibe with an acoustic guitar sound. this led me to search for acoustic guitars that are good for playing in coffee shop settings since i believe that those settings for performances suit sangyeop well.

without getting too deep into the nitty gritty of this selection, i'll just list a few characteristics of the yamaha fs-ta that make it advantageous for coffee shop playing. firstly, as a transacoustic guitar it can generate adjustable sound effects like reverb without needing to be plugged into an amp. this would help its sound to fill different types of performance spaces, which suits yeop's own performance variability. also, this type of guitar has a pickup system which allows it to be plugged into an amp as needed, rather than having to hook up a mic to the guitar which could cause other audio problems in a coffee shop performance. finally, it's just a pretty guitar (specifically with the brown sunburst color) and would look lovely with yeop on a small stage.

all in all, i'm confident that sangyeop would shine with the yamaha fs-ta, along with literally any type of guitar because he is so talented and versatile!

When this idea was proposed in the team I was a bit skeptical in participating because I literally have no idea about guitars or like instruments in general much. Thinking about it, however, I said to myself "why not?". This would be a great way to learn a bit more, to expand my horizons to new things I never consider... and in the process do something different for our dear Sangyeop.

I want to start this by wishing him the happiest of birthdays, that this brand new year of his life is full of truly incredible and meaningful moments, one that he gets to spend along his loved ones, and that he is able to continue giving us walwas amazing music like always along LUCY :heart:

Taking into that Sangyeop is the guitarist in the group, the ultimate best gift would be a guitar. Finding the perfect one, one that is unique and aligns with his liking is no easy task as there are literally many types of guitars out there, not to mention the fact that guitars are something really personal for guitarist.. it's like their love of their life, there is no way you wanna mess that up sksks. I think considering his style, technique and what he has said before about what type of music he enjoys playing, it would be a good idea to go with something that can handle any type of sound? Something that is classic but doesn't seem too archaic. I decided to go for a PRS SE Custom 24 guitar, though at first this one might seem like a luxurious buy, this guitar is known to be able to play any type of tone and is good at establishing accurate and/or stable sounds and vibratos. Why is that? Well, it is mainly because of the featured 8 different pickup combinations thanks to the 3-way selector and push/pull tone control. It is perfect to show off someone's skills to the max and it doesn't have to be limited to only one genre. I think anyone, not just a guitar player, would be able to appreciate this one as well as its finishing is just stunning. According to other guitar players, this type of guitar is not only comfortable (has a sense of fluidity) but also great for any speed — it has a good balance of both. So in general, it has an incredible playability. It also shows to have a great combination of vintage and modern style in of design. Honestly, I fell in love without even knowing much of guitars sksks. As whole I think it would be totally worth giving and I believe Sangyeop would be happy to receive something as iconic and beautiful as this guitar🤩🤲🏾

Happy birthday to our amazing vocalist and guitarist Sangyeop! A year has ed and you have grown as an artist, as a bandmate and as a person. I'm sure life has been wild for you and Lucy, you're going on all kinds of radio shows now and people are taking even more notice of your music. You wrote Eclipse, one of my favourite and most played b-sides from last year, giving me something to cling onto during the dark months of December and January. In return, I've showed you off to people for the past month. I'm not really sure what I want to say to you, just... I want you to know you're doing well and Walwals are proud of you.

Phew, okay, with that corny into out of the way, let's get to the topic of this post! So, when I suggested this idea, I wasn't really sure where exactly to start off when making my choice of guitar for Sangyeop’s gift. The first important thing to determine was whether I want an electric or acoustic guitar for him, and if I want something more unique like a baritone guitar, or something classic. So, I decided to look a little bit into what guitars he plays and where. My mind immediately wondered to this red electric guitar that is often in photos with him, he also plays this one at music shows and concerts. This one seems to be his choice of guitar, meaning I had to find out what brand and model it is! And after some searching, I've determined it is an Edwards E-SE-100M in the candy apple red colouration. A visually striking guitar for sure, you really can't tear your eyes off of it! With this knowledge available, I knew I wanted to look into guitars that are similar in quality and feel. In turn, this led me to Gibson, a guitar brand that is known for good quality guitars, and their Les Paul models. Named after a legendary guitarist, Les Paul guitars are universally loved by many and highly recommended because of their sound quality, which was a big priority to me when choosing the perfect guitar for Sangyeop. Eventually, I landed on the Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's model, which ticked all boxes of what I was looking for.

So, what does the Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's have going for it? Well, besides the sleek and polished look (the picture has the Iced Tea colouration), it has a slim neckline, which should provide more comfort for faster playing. The guitar also has a solid mahogany body with a maple top. Mahogany is a wood that's known for giving the guitar a more sustained and warmer tone with the lower frequencies sounding out more, which is exactly what I was looking for as I figured a warmer tone might be a nice compliment and contrast to Sangyeop’s sharper vocals! However, with the maple top being included, you also get some of that brightness characteristic to the wood, which hopefully provides some of those highs as well. The neck of this LP (Les Paul) is made of rosewood, which offers more sustain and versatility when it comes to genres.

Now, Steph mentioned pickup combinations earlier and I will be mentioning pickups as well, so I thought I'd explain what a pickup is exactly. To summarise, a pickup is a device that transmits the vibrations of the strings you play into electricity. You can't see the device because it's embedded into the body of the guitar (specifically beneath the strings, pls don't pick apart your guitar to see it-). There are two types of pickups, each with their own models. The first type is the single coil, which producers a crisp and brighter sound compared to the humbucker, which produces a thicker tone. Since I'm aiming for richer and fuller sound, it's quite clear the Gibson LP Standard 60's has a humbucker type pickup (specifically the burstbucker 61R for the neck pickup and burstbucker 61T for the bridge pickup). Perfect! All-in-all, the guitar model is rich in tone and versatile, which I'm certain will satisfy the need of our incredible guitarist <3
