hi, hello, 안녕

it‘s my favorite time of year. no

not christmas or new years. the

time of year when I get to look

back at all the amazing songs

that   were   released this   year,

and appreciate them. and even

though 2019 was a rough year

for   kpop   fans, we really did

receive many fantastic songs

from so many different groups.

so what I will be doing today is

listing   some   of   my   favorite

songs   from   2019, and even

some   which    were   released

the year   before but still had

a   big impact on my year as

many of them were on repeat

constantly.

top 19ish of 2019;

        » 24. dandelion, ab6ix

  I don’t even stan ab6ix but this song

  makes me want to. to be honest, this

  whole album was pretty great but this

  song takes the cake for me. the calm

  vibes of the instrumental and their

  vocals is something I live for. I love

   when a group can accomplish an

  uplifting slower yet still upbeat song.

  it just has such a good feel to it and

   the overall sound is so beautiful.

   when I first heard this song, the chorus

  was constantly stuck in my head. It’s

   just so catchy and cute and fun.

   everything goes so well together,

  the instrumental, their voices. it’s

   definitely a stand out song from a

  rookie group.

        » 23. black, hyunsik

  hyunsik is a blessing and this song is

  perfection, y’all be sleeping on talent

  by not talking about it. I was expecting

  all ballads when listening to this album

  but then hyunsik comes out with this

  absolute bop of a rock based track.

   and if you thought hyunsik’s voice fits

  ballads, oh my god, his voice in this,

  wow. it makes me wanna stan a rock

  group featuring hyunsik as the lead

  vocalist. the lower tones of his voice

   are just so perfectly drawn out in this

  song and you can truly appreciate the

  fullness of his vocal sound which is

   really apparent going into the chorus

  with the mechanical layering, I’m a

  sucker for how that sounds. not to

   mention that rock instrumental is so

  much fun. you can never go wrong

  with a good rock beat.

        » 22. where‘s my money, sam kim

  listen up, sam kim is a musical and

  vocal treasure, and this song is

   amazing. from the guitar instrumental

  to his rich and vaguely raspy voice,

  the combination of instrument and

  vocals is beautiful. he takes on a fairly

  different sound with song. I’m used to

  his soft and smooth ballads that help

  you drift off to sleep, but here he is

   giving major bad boy vibes and I’m all

  here for it.

   it’s honestly just a song I vibe with. I

  love the sound and I love his voice and

  I’m so into the lyrics, I haven’t looked

  up the translation but from the words I

  do understand I legit yell all of them

   when this song is on shuffle. it kinda

   gives a powerful feeling. it’s great.

        » 21. love foolish, twice

  this song was quite a surprise to me. I

  always make sure to listen to twice

   songs when they release a new album

  but I rarely find something that really

  grabs my attention, but here we are. I

  heard this song and I was instantly in

  shock. it struck me so hard because it

  did not have the normal twice sound,

  it was much more mature and electronic.

  I really like this style for twice, their

  voices sound amazing, but it really

   caught me off guard. I like when groups

  can offer me unique sounds and

  surprises so this song was an absolute

  treat to find. not to mention that the

  chorus is amazing. it’s so catchy and

  sounds so good. this song might have

   to be one of my favorite girl group

  songs.

        » 20. get ready, eun jiwon

   this song is a bop! and y’all did not

  appreciate this comeback enough! this

  song goes so hard, not really because

  It’s more of a fun and bouncey rap

  song but still, eun ji won made a bop

  and no one talks about it.

   I seriously do love the best of this song

  though, it had enough bounce to the

  instrumental to keep it upbeat and fun

  and arguably even cute while still

   having some stronger elements, going

  into the chorus. and eun ji won is

  literally demanding recognition, like

  he raps and sings this song so well!!

  his verses are flawless and the chorus

   is so addicting.

         » 19. in my city, the solution

  so this one is very interesting to me

  because I had no idea who they were

  or anything until in rankers they were

  up for selection, and I listened to the

  song way back in july and I was

   absolutely hooked. despite it being

   entirely in english, it is performed by

  a korean rock group so I knew I had to

  talk about it especially since I’ve never

  seen anyone talk about them.

  the instrumental just hits and you’re so

  drawn in. I just love this type of rock

  and the singer’s voice is so unique.

  from the verse to the instrumental, I

   have never tired of the sound of the

   song. it’s so refreshing and fun. It

   might not be the most dynamic song

  but I love every aspect of it which is

   why I’ve been listening to it for almost

  five months.

        » 18. titanic, jackson wang

  another english release but I literally

  could not have this song on this list.

  as you know Jackson is a member of

  got7 but he’s also a solo artist and up

  until the release of this album, I had

  never really gotten into his releases, but

  man did this album change that. I love

  so many songs off this album, but this

  one in particular is just one I’ve been

  obsessed with!

  I love the rough and edgy beat. and

  the lyrics omg, I live for every single

  line. they’re so clever and funny. I’m

   actually obsessed. I can’t stop myself

  from, terribly, rapping along. I just feel

  like Jackson really proved himself as

  an artist with this album and this song

  just shows how good of a rapper is. and

  then the addition of rich brian, amazing.

  everything about this song is just

   fantastic.

        » 17. spotlight, 1the9

   as you will see, this year really was the

  year of the rookies for me. so many

  newly debuted groups took me by

  storm this year, and as a group that I

  did not know existed until I heard this

  song, I was not prepared to be met with

  an absolute bop.

  this song starts literally at zero seconds

  and it zooms you right into the action.

   nothing chill happens in this song, it’s

   wow after wow after wow. when I first

  listened I just sat in awe. this song has

  so many features, and some really unique

  ones. I just really like the set up of the

   song, how each member plays off each

  other and how the instrumental changes

  almost entirely from one section to

   another. I also really like the merry-go-

  round section, it’ll get stuck in your head

  instantly. but my favorite part of the song

  is the part of the chorus that follows

  after it. the way the voices in the parts

   like 1:45 to 2:07, in my mind is just

  perfect. they had such a bright debut.

        » 16. our summer, txt

  I had no idea what to expect when txt

  debuted. and for the most part, I

   decided that their music wasn’t for me

  but before I could turn my back to them

  this song literally told to shhhh and

  listen. I just really like the instrumental,

  I think. It was a really light hearted, open

  and airy instrumental that gives the feel

  of optimism, or at least to me, and I love

  songs that give off those kinds of vibes.

  I find them really calming and even

  exciting in some cases. and after hearing

  this song and becoming hooked, I must

  have listened to it a lot because it’s in my

  top ten most listened to songs for the year.

        » 15. party is over, giriboy

  for whatever reason, I’m normally not

  that big of a giriboy fan, but this song is

  just too good. it’s much less of a rap

  based song honestly, like of course there

  are some rap elements but what really

  gets me is the chorus instrumental. the

  drop is just so good. when I heard it for

  the first time, I was shook. it really just is

  a very me song, of as I have been told,

  which I guess makes sense because as

  soon as this song comes on shuffle, I get

   pumped. I love it’s vibe and sound, and

  finding a song from an artist that you’re

   normally not a fan of but you now love

   this one song is always exciting, or that’s

  at least what I think.

        » 14. focus, kim dong han

  so I was actually stuck between choosing

  this song and his other song, idea,

   because I really loved them both this year

  but I’m choosing to talk about focus

   because i played it more, and rightfully so

  because it’s an absolute bop.

  dong han has to be one of my favorite solo

  artists. I love his style. I love his voice. I

  love his choreography. and ive love all of

  his releases up until this point but focus

   just hit me different. like I’ve had it on my

  playlist for seven months and whenever it

  comes on shuffle, I still jam to it. there’s

   just something about this song that just

  demands for you to dance to it. it’s such

  a fun song and dong han performs so well

  with it. I just had to share it because I feel

  like most people don’t appreciate him and

  his song enough. an amazing artist.

        » 13. gottasadae, bewhy

  if you feel like you haven’t seen me fangirl

  yet, then you’re about to. bewhy. bewhy.

  be-freaking-why. this man, this single

   rapper is by far one of my favorite artists

  ever and he releases this song and

   perfection in the form of his album the

  movie star, and he expects me not to lose

  my mind??? the audacity.

  I don’t know if your a khh fan, but I am,

  as you might have noticed and this man,

  is my favorite. I love his music so much

  and this song is just the embodiment of

  everything I love about him. he makes the

  sickest beats, this song has a wild

   instrumental like you won’t believe. he has

  the most amazing and unique rap flow, in

  this song he must really have wanted to

   flex his abilities because I’m deceased.

  the chanting starts and then he comes in

  and I lose my mind. I am no longer a

   human, I am a bewhy fan and a bewhy fan

  alone.

   like listen to 1:12 and tell me that isn’t the

  most amazing rap verse you’ve ever heard.

  I get chills. chills, I tell you.

        » 12. zigzag, oneus

  when oneus first debuted, I’m going to

  it, I wasn’t very impressed, which was

  stupid of me because they’re amazingly

  talented, but it just took me a while to

  warm up to valkyrie and then the rest is

  history. I really enjoyed their debut album,

  I have all of their songs saved off it except

  one, like it’s that good, but the song that

  stood out to me the most out of all of their

  songs, not just this album has been this

   one: zigzag.

  this might be an odd favorite song for

   some people but there’s just something

  about the unique instrumental and the

  more slow side of the song that I just find

  so interesting and unique and by the time

  they get to the chorus, I’m fully pulled into

  the chatty verses. like this song and its

  chorus would just repeat in my head for

  hours during lectures. I honestly really like

  the overall sound of the song and their

  voices, and it’s unique enough to stand out.

        » 11. love aches, sik-k

   I don’t know how many of you are khh

    fans or sik-k stans, but trust me, 2019

   was this man‘s year. he legit released so

   many good songs, which is why you’ll

   soon see that he’s the only artist to have

   two songs on this list because neither

    one could just be a mention. they both

   deserve some recognition. like this man

   and his songs seriously blow me away.

   so let’s get to it. the style and sound he

    used with the release of this album was

   just perfect. it’s slightly electronic, slightly

   guitar based, and his rap-singing is just

   so addictive. his voice is just amazing, I

   love. I legit live for every verse, the tone of

   his voice and how it combines with the

    instrumental is just so good. and even

    though there isn’t necessarily a beat drop

   in this song, how everything flows together

   despite having smalls changes is amazing.

   the chorus has such a catchy sound. if you

   listen to this song, it will totally get stuck in

   your head. overall, it’s just a vibe.

        » 10. suffering for love, eden

   guys, listen to me for a second. if you

    don’t know who eden is, what are you

    doing? like seriously. this man is not

    only a producing genius but a vocal god.

   his music always hits me right in the

    feels so when I heard he was having a

   comeback I was soooo pumped, and my

   word was I blessed.

   I love the guitar instrumental for most of

   the song, it just really sets the tone, and

   then as the tension of the song builds

   and his voice and story swells, the

    instrumental hits harder and you can just

   hear and feel the emotion. this song is

   just so beautiful and moving, and even

   though it’s a bit sad, I absolutely enjoy

   listening to it. I really just think it’s such

   a masterful song.

        » 09. say my name, ateez

   if you know me, you know I love ateez, and

   this song just started my year off so well.

   ateez really had their first comeback with

   this song and they shouted that 2019 was

   going to be their year and it was.

    I’m not going to lie, following treasure, I

    was expecting another song to blow me

   away, and I think at first I wasn’t entirely

   sold by this release but it must has grown

   on me because it was my most listened to

   song of the year and that’s saying some-

   thing because I listen to a lot of music.

   but now as a full fledged say my name

   enthusiast, I can say that is honestly might

   be the ateez song in my mind. of course,

   there are a few songs I like more than this

   one but in my mind, say my name is just

   so iconically ateez. the beat is so unique

   and the song just really shows their

    capabilities vocally and rap wise and oh

    my god, their choreography. this song is

   just so iconic in my mind.

    also, the rap line is fire as always and the

   last thirty seconds of this song, absolutely

   god tier, who else is doing it like ateez???

        » 08. bon bon chocolat, everglow

   I have no way to explain this song other

   than a blessing. I’ve always struggled to

   get into girl groups, I don’t know what it

   is but it is not lack of trying. however,

   when this song came out, I was like okay

   let’s see what’s up with this, might be

   interesting. and then I proceeded to listen

   to it on repeat for about five months.

   not only is this song powerful but it’s so

   powerful for a rookie group. their debut

   song! everglow came right out the gate

   with an absolute bop. I love everything

    about this song from the instrumental to

   their verses to the choreography. in the

   weirdest way, this so was so addicting, I

   couldn’t get enough of the sound of the

   song and the girls and the choreography!

   from the first second I was hooked and

   I still am. I don’t know if another girl

   group song will ever have me as whipped

   as this song does.

        » 07. soso, winner

   with a totally biased opinion, this song is

   the most artful kpop release of the entire

   year. not only is the mv stunning and the

    instrumental and vocals breathtaking but

   the lyrics, the freaking lyrics are also

   so amazingly emotional. this whole song

   was just a gift given to us by the heavens,

   blessing us with a masterpiece that could

   only have been performed by the one and

   only winner. if you’d like to hear me rant

   let’s get back to the fan girl rant.

   so I knew this song was going to be good,

   it’s winner. I love winner. I was excited,

    but my guys, this song is beyond good.

   it is basically perfection. first of all the

   instrumental changes from slightly upbeat

   verses to a prechorus that is crazy to then

   go to a chorus that is so somber, the

    freaking trip this song takes you on is

   amazing. this switch is something that I

   did not see coming and I was absolutely

    stupefied the first time I heard it. I was in

   disbelief. not to mention that seungyoon’s

   vocals are absolutely heavenly and mino’s

   rap verse is absolute fire. this whole song

    is just amazing both artistically and

    instrumentally. I love it so much.

        » 06. deep, trei

   I don’t know how many of you know this

   group but you seriously should; they’re

   amazing and the fact that this song is all

   the way at number six is such proof of

   that. I honestly just feel like this song has

   a really good groove to it. it’s not

   necessarily upbeat or slow. it’s kinda just

   in the middle and somehow this upbeat

   yet chilled vibe just really works for me,

   instrumentally. it’s really interesting.

   their vocals and raps are amazing, allowing

   the listener to get a full feel of their talent

   and everything this song and them have to

   offer. I seriously could listen to this song

   all day and never get bored. in fact I have

    been listening to it for nine months and

    haven’t gotten tired of it so it really is a

   song that I adore. despite, it’s seemingly

    basic sound, it’s a song that really does

   hold a special treat in it for the people

   who listen to it.

        » 06. falling blossoms, huta

   if y’all did not listen to and lee

   minhyuk’s solo album earlier this year, you

   missed out big time. if I had more spaces

   on this list, he would have three songs on

   here but I am only letting myself have 19

   to spare you from the rants so I will just

   include his other two bops here: hang out +

   ya. but for now let’s get to the main

     attraction: falling blossoms.

    now I chose this song over the others for

    the simple reason of how it makes me

     feel. whereas the other songs are more

    upbeat and exciting, this one minute forty

    second song is honestly one of the most

    beautiful and soothing ballads of this year

    and it’s sung by one of the main rappers

     of btob. like I knew minhyuk could sing

    but this is absolute perfection. I love this

    song so much. It’s literally stunning,

     from the soft piano to the strong swell of

    an orchestra to minhyuk’s sweet voice, I

    was and really still am breathless when I

    hear this song. it’s so magical and even

    impactful. both the instrumental and

     vocals as well as the lyrics are beautiful.

        » 04. flip:fl1p, sik-k

    here he is again, sik-k. this man literally

    killed this year. all of his releases and

     features were actual fire. and this song in

    particular wow. like it’s only 1:30 but it

    packs a punch. sik-k comes in at 0:12 and

    he’s not messing around. he comes in and

    raps straight away, bringing in that

     beautiful raspy rap-singing voice that I

    would actually die for. he literally only raps

    for about a minute but this freaking minute

    gets me so hype. his raps are always so

    spot on. his flow is impeccable and his

    voice is perfect. he rides the instrumental

    like an actual god. and then the chorus hits

    and it’s just so smooth. this whole song is

     just crazy good, and if it were more than

    a minute and thirty seconds the whole

    world would probably explode from its

    being to perfection, but man what I would

    do to be able to hear a longer version of

    this song. like wow, perfection.

        » 03. play hard, sf9

    for whatever reason, I rarely find an sf9

    side track that I like, but this song right

    here is an absolute masterpiece. it’s been

    on repeat since it was released ten

    months ago. the instrumental is just so

    exciting and hard hitting from the synth

     and percussion to the horns at the

     beginning and chorus, this beat will get

     stuck in your head and it will be the best

    thing you ever experienced. in my mind

    this song is the definition of a rave song.

    if this were playing in a club, you’d 100%

    see me giving my all on the dance floor.

    it would be hideous but I’d be having a

    fantastic time!

    this might not be the best song that

    features their vocal abilities but none the

    less I love their verses. they only help to

    makes the song more hype than it already

    is and the chorus is just so addictive. it

    really is a party anthem. the beginning

    goes way to hard, sucking you in and the

    chorus just destroys you. It’s so good.

        » 02. lost paradise, pentagon

    so this might not be my favorite pentagon

    song, it definitely is one of them, but in

    my mind, it is by far one of the most

    musically interesting pentagon songs, and

    definitely one of the best songs that

     pentagon has released in a long time. like

    I don’t even know if I can properly explain

    why I love this song so much because it

    literally leaves me dumbfounded.

     the instrumental is fairly static, which is

    normally a big negative but pentagon

     use the instrumental perfectly that I don’t

    even notice that it doesn’t change, and

     the stagnant sound of the instrumental

    actually adds to the whole vibes set up

    by the vocals. speaking of vocals, a better

    grouping of four could not

    exist for this song. hui is one of my

     favorite vocalists in the entirety k-pop so

    this song is an absolute blessing to my

    ears with his high notes and kino’s vocals

     fit this song’s angsty vibe so well. not to

    mention two of the best deep voiced

    rappers are here, yuto and wooseok, like

    wow their raps starting at 2:10, literally

    send me into a difference existence of

     being, their flow is amazing. everything

     about the sound of this song is perfection.

        » 01. lonely, lee gikwang

    i’ve said it before and I will say it again this

    is the most underrated song of 2019.

     gikwang came back earlier this year with

    an amazing album and literally no one

    talked about it, but now here I am ready to

     spread my love and appreciation for this

     man and his amazing song because in my

     mind literally no other song releases this

     year deserves the number one spot other

    than ‘lonely’.

    now i don’t know if you’ve ever heard a

     gikwang song before, but if you haven’t

    you’re very much missing out on some of

    the best vocals and fun beats around.

     as a beast + highlight fan, I love every

    ’ voice but there’s just something

    about gikwang’s voice that just makes it

    extra addictive and unique. his voice really

    shines through in this song, adding the

     correct amount of edge and vibrato to a

    rather upbeat and bouncey dance based

    song. his voice little seems to float

     throw the complex instrumental of synth

    -ized instruments.

     while on the topic of the instrumental

    though, the vibes of this song is just

    phenomenal. it has been out since march

     but even know as soon as the first few

     notes hit, i’m immediately moving along

     to the groove of the song. I honestly don’t

    think I’ve heard another song with an

    instrumental like this one so that especially

    pulls me in. everything about it, is just so

    addicting, from the small changes in the

    instrumental throughout the verses,

     gikwang’s vocals, the little claps throughout

    the song, and especially the ending twenty

    some seconds where you really get to

    appreciate some beautiful vocals. in

    conclusion, this song has earned number

     one in my eyes because a it’s absolutely

     flawless and despite months of having it on

    repeat, it still has me intrigued and in love.

for this section, I will be listing

songs I didn’t hear until early

this    year   or   songs   that   I

have been listening to since

my playlist this year.

        » 04. love bomb, fromis_9

   so I just ended up finding this song rather

   late as I normally don’t look very much into

   girl groups, but after I found this song I

    definitely started paying more attention.

   so this song right here, is honestly, the

    entire definition of a bop, and since I had

    no idea it existed last year, I decided i had

   to appreciate it this year as it legit made

   me love fromis_9 so much.

   I honestly think it’s the chorus that sucked

   me in. I don’t know if a song has ever been

   more catchy. I’m honestly still addicted to

    the change from the prechorus into the

   chorus, and the chorus itself, wow. it’s just

   so much fun and their vocals are amazing,

   especially, hayoung’s and jiwon’s. I legit

   just don’t think I can ever explain how

    great this song is.

        » 03. get it, the boyz

   this is another song I came on to,

    unfortunately late as I didn’t get into the

   boyz’ music until early this year, but this

   song must easily be my favorite song by

   them. it might be because I fell in love

   with a performance video of q dancing to

   it, but regardless, this song is amazing.

   I love the instrumental so so so so so so

   so so so so much. I wouldn’t say I’m the

   biggest fan of hard-hitting songs, but

   this one oh my god, it just hits and the

   beat just runs through your body. it’s so

   good. I love it. if I could marry a beat drop

   it literally might have to be this one. I

    swear to you, the instrumental to the song

   is god tier. and the vocals, the boyz

   has such a good vocal line. how they sing

   this song is so good. they sound amazing.

   I could legit go on forever, but I’m just

    going to leave it with I wish I had heard

   this song earlier.

         » 02. paradise, hotshot

   this song was on repeat for such a long

   time, and honestly I still think it’s an

   incredible song. I love the slow and

    slightly rnb vibes that it gives off. it’s

   really refreshing, and the vocals are just

   so addicting. hotshot really is such a

   unique group able to release amazing

   songs with so many different sounds, but

   this one in particular is perfect for any

   situation, be it dancing or doing homework

   it’s just a song that fits any mood, and I

   love that about it. I could literally listen to

   the instrumental all day as I just find it so

   soothing, and the ’ voices are

   so amazing, especially junhyuk, his voice

   is perfection. I basically mention this song

   because I listened to it for the better half

    of the what despite having it been released

   over a year ago. it’s just stood out to me

   as an amazing song and hasn’t left my

   brain and heart since. also, I just want

   more people to appreciate hotshot as well

   as this amazing song.

        » 01. treasure, ateez

   if you know me, you know I love ateez, and

   the fact that I’ve literally had this song on

   my current jams playlist for over a year

   now just truly shows how much I absolutely

   adore this song and this group. to me, this

   song is one of the best k-pop debuts along

   side shinee’s replay and knk’s knock. every

   -thing about this song is just beautiful.

   the way it opens, instrumentally and vocally

   so soft yet so impactful, and then the way

   the instrumental swells into the chorus and

   starting with rap line, my word, ateez has

    such good rappers and vocalists wow, and

   for a group that had just debuted? the

    capability they had at debut was scarily

   amazing, and for this song to still have me

   shook a whole year later shows how

    amazing I see it as. literally nothing can

   compare to this song in my mind and that’s

    why it’s had such an impact on my 2019.

   like it’s literally been on repeat since it’s

    release last year. I don’t think I’ve ever

    listened to a song this much.

songs   that made my 2019. I

know people will differ on what

they think was the best, but I

think   it’s really interesting to

see what other people listened

to.    it’s     a     little     way     of

possibly finding songs, you did

not even know existed.
