This is my entrance for the Fablemons contest! It follows Yveltal and Xerneas. It’s a story of balance and duty in a sense. That true strength lies not in power—but in restraint. I think that these Pokémon definitely tie into this fable.

The Thousand-Year Tempest
For years, Yveltal slept in silence—empty dreams, quiet, and without color. But when the world awoke him, Yveltal rose.
He rose, not with fury—but with force. Yveltal was not fueled by anger, but a sense of finality: the duty Arceus gave him.
“The balance must be restored,” he thought. With a beat of his wings, life recoiled. Trees turned brittle, Pokémon froze mid-step, and the air stayed still.
He shrieked, announcing to the world he was there to fulfill his duty—a duty he had to fulfill for his creator. But when the silence came, he did not feel fulfilled—he felt alone again.
“Why… why?” he asked himself.
A shine of elegance ascended to the field—it was Xerneas.
“You silence the world, but do not listen to it,” she spoke, standing unshaken beneath the tempest.
“Arceus did not create me to listen,” Yveltal said, looking to the heavens. “He created me to end.”
Xerneas looked up. “Were you born to be alone?” she asked.
And for the first time, Yveltal fell silent—uncertain.
Xerneas knelt beside a frozen Piplup, lowering her antlers. A touch of life surged through the dying rock.
The Piplup stirred, blinking. It looked up at the two giants—comfort in Xerneas’s presence, and dread in Yveltal’s.
Then a rose grew from the ashes. It was fragile. It was living. And it was real.
“No matter what life you bring, I can destroy it in a breath,” Yveltal said.
“But would that fill what’s missing?” Xerneas asked.
“You erase the chance to rebuild. This is something your anger cannot nurture.”
“With all my strength, I still feel hollow,” Yveltal murmured.
“Strength without direction is noise,” Xerneas said, stepping closer as life returned with every step.
Yveltal opened his wings and flew off, and the skies began to clear.
The God of Death let life prosper again
