Tideborn males tend to have swimmer built physiques with graceful movements that seem almost too fluid for land. Their features are sharp yet captivating, often marked by subtle traits like finned ears, iridescent gill slits at the neck, and the occasional scaled forearm or cheek. Hair colors range from seafoam green to midnight blue, often flowing like seaweed in water. While some appear almost human, many have a distinct “otherness” that hints at their once deep sea heritage.

Traits/Defining Features:

Tideborn possess retractable gills on their necks, allowing them to breathe both in water and on land. Though they once had tails, the aftermath of the Regalian Plague mutated their physiology, giving them legs. Though some retain subtle fin ridges or webbed toes. Their skin tones vary wildly, from human hues to rich aquatic tones like turquoise, violet, or jade. Many sport scales across their bodies, especially around ts or along the spine. All Tideborn possess a natural affinity for water magic and are most powerful under moonlight.

History:

The Tideborn were once known simply as Merfolk, an ancient aquatic race who thrived in the oceans surrounding Regalia. Their kingdom beneath the waves was one of magic, song, and shimmering coral cities. However, when the Regalian Plague swept across the land, it mutated more than flesh… it rewrote fate. The mermaids’ tails withered into legs, their fins dulled, and they were forced to adapt or perish. Those who survived evolved, gaining the ability to walk the land, though at the cost of some of their sea bound glory. They became the Tideborn, a new chapter in a song of survival. Now, they walk between worlds, no longer fully sea, nor land, but bound to both through magic, memory, and the moon.

Extra Info:

» They do not form traditional armies but instead use coordinated sea song tactics in battle.

» Pearls are considered sacred, often worn or embedded into Tideborn armor or jewelry.

» The moon is deeply tied to their rituals and even births, many are born only during full moons.

» Their tears crystallize into a material called “Moonglass,” prized for magical use.
