“You know what would make it easier to live on the top floor of a broken down apartment building?

The brunette looked up when he heard the sudden question from his friend. He raised an eyebrow to give him the cue to answer.

“If my one and only friend didn’t eat all of my snacks.” The man broke out into a grin, throwing a nearby piece of paper at the other, who easily blocked it while scoffing and crumpling up the now empty Doritos bag in his hand.

“I told you I’d buy you food! Luca, with all due respect, you live in a shithole, and you still don’t let me help!” The brown haired man said with a groan, leaning back against the wall behind him dramatically. It wasn’t the first time he was ranting about this.

“Leave it be, Mak, if I have too much stuff, it’ll be suspicious. I’ll probably get looted.” Luca responded with a sigh, looking around. It wasn’t like many people came up here anyway. Besides, he had more valuable items than some food. The glowing laptops around him were proof of that. He built most of them himself, but that didn’t make them any less needed in some people’s eyes.

“Whatever, I need to go anyway.” Mak got up, waving at his friend before walking out the only entrance leading directly to a staircase. The limited light meant he disappeared quickly, but Luca gave him one last wave before focusing on the screen in front of him. It looked like the glitching colors were mocking him, challenging him to try again.

Which he would. Over. And over. And over again. It wouldn’t end, not until he was found out again. Who else would do this beside him? It’s not like there were any other tech savvy, stubborn as all hell, semi-street smart, ex-Hydra out there with a need to take the monster down.

Luca was adopted when he was a baby by both of his parents. He was an only child, and always would be. He was a bright child, always curious about everything which usually lead him into trouble at a young age. As soon as he was introduced to technology, he was instantly obsessed. Not in the social media way, but the how-does-this-work way. He had a teacher in high school who showed him the ropes of code and even taught him how to build some parts, or at least how the inside worked. Part of the increase in interest in technology was the fact that he lost his right leg from the knee down during the Chitauri attack. The Taylor’s apartment had been obliterated, leaving him and his family crushed. They all escaped with their lives, but had severe injuries, one being the fact that they would eventually have to amputate his leg after a few complications.

The event didn’t stop him from learning. He even started learning how to potentially build a more tech style limb, which didn’t really happen, but was a dream.

Strangely enough, he wasn’t satisfied with college. He got into a fairly good school and it was challenging, but he wasn’t sure if this was the best course. He tried taking diverse courses, doing whatever he could to figure his life out. After nearly two years, he dropped out. Weeks after dropping out, he was approached by a group of hackers who had somehow found out about him. A little naive at the time and wanting to avoid having to tell his parents about dropping out of college, he accepted due to needing money. The group seemed innocent. They were going after greedy people at first. That’s what it seemed like, anyway. It’s what he was told. It wasn’t until Luca had a good standing when this “hacktivist” group would reveal their true colors. They attacked harmless individuals, messing with their funds, stealing secrets, and even going after some parts of the justice system. All in the name of one huge group - Hydra. They may not be so forward about it, but it was obvious when they were doing something to help the organization.

Luca felt lucky when he was able to flee. He was able to hide out in his apartment for a short time, before they caught on and he had to flee. His current base is the top floor of an abandoned apartment building. It’s barren, as it was empty of its rooms or whatever else was on the floor. He built up computers and laptops to use for himself and even found a generator for technology. The floor is littered with wires and his bed is only a mattress and a few blankets, but he’s aware that he can’t do much now that he’s on the run.

With this, Luca found a new goal - find his old “friends” and find a way to get them taken down. He is careful, but he still hacks for what he thinks is for the good of others.
