THE days ed and ed on. thor came and went, odin was sitting at the throne, and she only saw frigga once every now and then when she would venture from her chambers. drífa never really ventured far from her chambers anymore, she would leave to see the healers and return back to the comfort of her once shared chambers. the bedchambers were rarely ever used that much anymore, she mostly found herself falling asleep on the couches now. her handmaidens would warn her not to do so, but she never found that energy to get up from the loveseat.

loki was returned to her, but he was just out of reach to her. locked away in those godawful dungeons that odin rarely granted her any visitation time, and if he found it in his heart to do so, it was less than she would have wanted. her stomach was growing now. some mornings, when she was dressing, she would stare at it in the mirror. it was a marvel at how women’s bodies could carry such small and fragile things that would later grow into someone with their own mind and thoughts and feelings.

some days she noticed that she was gaining stretch marks. pink and purple stripes on her thighs and stomach appeared as the skin grew taut, and soon she had to switch to dresses that were more made for maternity. as the days ed and as time continued to , she could not help that aching feeling that grew in her heart. were they destined to do this forever? to chase one another until one was out of the others reach, only to have them just out of their reach again? was this their destiny? she ed the nights when they would talk about having a family, about what they would name their children and what the rest of their lives would look like. now, she spent her nights sleeping on a couch in front of the fireplace while loki slept in the dungeons.

she continued to ask herself that question when she somehow managed to end up in the tva. she was with loki, but she found herself feeling that same ache. he was within her reach, but somehow he felt far away from her.

was this what they were destined to do, for all of time? be within each others reach without ever finally meeting?
