The Mütter Museum in Philadelphia, while supposedly a museum of medical history, is secretly one of the greatest horror museums on Earth. They can’t play She Wants Revenge on the sound system, but that’s because they want everyone to hear the docent giving a pop-up lecture on deformed brains or the black and white film about bygone midwife practices.
I won’t lie, some of the medical malformaties were a tad disturbing, as I imagined the short lives that gave us these bizarre skeletons, or the long lives enduring such aberrations. Flashbacks to Tod Browning’s Freaks played through my head as I wondered if the owners to these skeletons were cruelly treated by the world.
But the gift shop? It’s like the unboxing video from every goth YouTube hack, except it has stuff you might actually want.
Photography is not allowed inside the museum. So yours truly definitely didn’t surreptitiously hide a phone under his coat and take poorly framed photos in the museum. That would be against the rules and as the mod team knows, I’ve never broken the rules.

One day I really want to go there!
I bet you’d love it!
If you’re into literature, check out the Rosenbach just up the street as well!
