              character-oriented one whilst tracing

             the roots of he original myths to which

             the series is inspired from. In this edition,

             we will showcase our three heroes,

             Percy, Jason, and Thalia, and their

             namesakes from mythology.

this edition’s theme was “Heroes from Greek mythology and their riordanverse namesakes” i decidedly to go with the namesake thalia as it is taken by both thalia the muse of comedy and thalia grace the daughter of zeus. now the difference between this namesake and other namesakes used in the riordanverse is that it is unclear whether or not thalia grace got named after the muse. despite that i decided to make a moodboard of both characters. i added a dark psd to enhance the old look

Stapler Trouble

"Jason," he said. "Name him Jason." It was unclear whether the King of the Gods' tone was pinched with worry as he said this. He sounded firm and confident with his child's name. Beryl Grace did not have a chance to disagree, for what can a mortal woman do against an olympian god's word?

It was why time and time again she begged Zeus, Jupiter, whatever form he took or name he used, to make her immortal. It was convenient to her physical attributes. An actress who starred in multiple television shows, never aged. Magazines and gossip tabloids would scramble to know her secret to youth. But no, to permit this atrocity would only displease Juno.

Names have power. Three words, long uttered and ed from generation to generation, for good reason. A blond haired boy now offered to Juno through his namesake, the goddess' favored hero. It pleased the goddess and the Grace family had found peace.

Until there was none. Beryl should have seen this coming. With her firstborn, Thalia Grace, who was born through his Greek form. She should've known that the god would disappear into the night. Just as he did the first time. Beryl was now alone with her daughter and a son.

A raven haired girl stood witness to it all. Abandoned by her father. Ignored and left with no affection by her mother. And now, a little brother to care for because Beryl could not care less than what product to use for her eternal beauty. At seven old, Thalia Grace was left with taking care of her little brother despite plans of running away, how could she leave a vulnerable human being? She cannot and will not trust her gods forsaken parents to care for Jason.

And besides, he was such a cute baby, who wouldn't want to take care of him?

Time was such a fickle thing but the Grace siblings had their own fun even if Jason would not any of them. There would come a time where one funny story would standout of them all.

Just the two of them in their own space. Thalia was nine and Jason was two and Beryl was no where to be found. It was fine. Thalia had Jason, and Jason had Thalia, the siblings could get through with this together.

However it was an oddly stressful day, the Grace family did not have any helpers hired to clean up for them and to cook for them. Jason was in the stage of being a terrible toddler at two with all his curiosities.

Jason was fully capable of walking, going from one place to another, reaching for things that he could inspect. Thalia on the other hand, was more attentive, but this time, she missed an arrow.

"Jason, put that down!" Thalia warned and came running towards where her brother was sitting. The coos and ahhs of young Jason Grace were soon followed by click and a cry. Thank whoever was watching that his lips weren't shield shut.

For all the days she had spent with Jason, never did she imagine a stapler trouble to occur. She carried Jason and rubbed his back reassuringly as he continued to cry. "I told you to put it down," but Thalia knew no matter how many warnings she'd say, Jason was merely a toddler who couldn't understand anything yet.

He continued crying but the bleeding on his lip had stopped, and was treated through what Thalia knew as first aid. She made a mental note to tell this to Beryl, with firmness so it would happen. "Come on, let's get you changed."

Still carrying Jason, they approached his bedroom and Thalia quickly pulled a couple drawers to change his tear-soaked shirt to a Superman one, fresh from the laundry. She knew it would make him feel better.

"What did we learn today, bud?" She asked, he giggled. "We do no eat office supplies." She said in a commandeering voice but Jason continued to giggle. Thalia booped her brother's nose and smiled. "And that I should really pay attention to you closer than ever."

Hello HBA!! It's me, Star, back with another blog for the Pheme's nymph. This time's theme was 'Heroes from Greek mythology and their riordanverse namesake.' And I thought who would be better than the OG hero himself! Now without any further delay, let us get started.

Perseus is one of the only greek heroes who does not have a tragic ending. He certainly has an unusual birth, yes, and he does go on a Heroic Journey in which he accomplishes great things. But Perseus does not acquire any Early Tests, and, most importantly, Perseus leads a happy life after completing his heroic journey and does NOT have an unfortunate death.

The Unusual birth

Perseus's grandfather, the King of Argos, wanted a male heir to his throne because he only had one daughter. An oracle told him that his grandson would kill him, which caused him to change his mind and put his daughter, Danae, in a box with no doors or windows, only a hole in the roof. This was so young men wouldn't see her, but Zeus saw her and descended through the hole in the roof in the form of golden rain. When the King heard a baby's cries inside the box, he seized Danae and her son, put them in a wooden chest, and sent them out to sea. Eventually, the box washed up on the Island of Seriphos, where Danae and Perseus were found by Dictys, the brother of the King.

The Quest

Polydectes, the island's King, fell in love with Danae and wanted to marry her, although she did not want to go through with the marriage. Perseus, now grown, refused to let Polydectes take his mother. To get rid of Perseus, Polydectes slyly challenged him to kill the Gorgon Medusa and bring him her head. So Perseus set out to retrieve the head of Medusa. With the help of Athena, Perseus found the Graeae. The Graeae were three old sisters who shared a single eye between them. They did not want to help Perseus, but he managed to steal their eye as they were ing it from one to another; Perseus refused to give back the eye until they helped him, so they agreed. They told Perseus about the nymphs of Hesperides and where to find them. And when Perseus found the nymphs', they gave him three gifts:

• Winged sandals, which would allow him to fly through the air.

•A cap of darkness, which would make him invisible.

•A special metallic pouch for Medusa's head.

With the help of the magical items, Perseus defeated Medusa and successfully brought her head back. On his way back, Perseus ed by Ethiopia and saw a beautiful girl, Andromeda, the princess of the land, chained to a rocky cliff, about to be devoured by a sea-serpent. Perseus immediately fell in love with her. Using his sword and winged sandals, Perseus killed the sea-serpent by turning the monster to stone (by showing it Medusa's head). And then, of course, he marries her.

Happily Ever After

Perseus returned to Seriphus, where he found that Polydectes was about to marry his mother. As he entered the hall where Polydectes and his friends were having a feast, Perseus pulled Medusa's head out of its bag, turning the King and all his friends into stone. Having no more use of the head, he gave it to Athena, who puts it on her shield, and then he sailed home to Argos with Andromeda and Danaë. His grandfather received them kindly, without causing any more trouble. But not long afterward, when Perseus was competing at an athletic contest, he threw a discus that accidentally hit Acrisius, killing him instantly. Feeling guilty about his grandfather's death, he and Andromeda moved away, and Perseus founded the kingdom of Mycenae. Perseus and Andromeda lived happily until they died and were put into the sky as constellations.

⌇ THE QUESTIONS ::                 

1. What are your opinions on how Hercules was represented in the books? Is there anything you'd change about his character? Why?

2. Among the heroes from the Riordanverse who were named after heroes from Greek mythology, which one is your favorite and why? What similarities does this character share with their namesake?

1. I actually like how he was represented. He came off as arrogant and as not so nice. Which is pretty accurate, he wasn’t a good person. He was a hero because he was the child of Zeus, that’s it. When it was included that he had killed his wife I lost it. It’s so important in his life yet people seem to simply gloss over it. He did do a lot of things, most than other heroes so maybe I would’ve gone more into it. Especially since Percy did them too. Maybe a small encounter where they talk about it would’ve been nice. What would I change? Nothing. I loved the reference with Starbucks since everyone knows him. Again the only thing I’d change is having him interact with Percy.

2. I think I’d Choose Thalia. In mythology she’s also the daughter of Zeus and she’s a muse. More precisely she’s the goddess of festivities, comedy and banquets. Sometimes associated with Aphrodite. I love her because she simply sounds so fun. Goddess of festivities and banquets? Sounds like a good party to me. That she’s associated with Aphrodite, my favorite goddess also helps. I don’t think they share that many similarities except for their names. At first glance they even look like the opposite. However I found Thalia quite funny in the books, someone who was strong willed and fought for what she wanted. Not always what was expected of her but she chose her own battles in a way. And this reminds me a little of Thalia from mythology, you can’t be the goddess of comedy and not be funny. Also Thalia is now immortal, being a hunter, so that’s also something that is similar to both of them.

1. I absolutely hated how Heracles was represented in the books. While I understand he has went through a lot I dont think he'd be as crazy as they depicted him. I think over all he shouldve been a much kinder person in the books.

2. The only one I really can recall is Percy and Perseus. Similarities wise they both beheaded a gorgon and would ride a pegasi. And Perseus was regarded as one of the best slayers of monsters, and Percy is also very gifted in that aspect.

1. In my opinion, Hercules was represented as a great hero but not a perfect one, his flaws and mistakes being shown. Some of his mistakes being mentioned, for example taking full credit for stealing The Apples of Hesperides, even tho Zoë Nightshade was the one who gave him the idea of how to do it. I also feel like Hercules’ mistakes were necessary for Percy’s description given the fact that they were compared with one another since they shared similarities, because of that I wouldn’t change the way he was portrayed.

2. My favorite hero named after a Greek mythology hero would be Percy (Perseus) because of his loyalty torwards his friends and because of his ability to overcome numerous challenges. Percy and Perseus are similar in a few aspects, one of them being that they both win a fight against Medusa by cutting her head off.
