Silent Confession - Writing Excerpt

“Yeah, I owe you a lot, really.” Rowan chuckled a little and smiled back, looking at Logan a little more closely now that they were close once again. He hadn’t intended to, but he’d happened to have his attention drawn down slightly after catching sight of what seemed like more scars that were on Logan’s chest. There were two larger ones on either side, just above mid-ribcage level on his chest, as well as a few others he could see that were lower.

“You’re staring.”

The sound of Logan’s voice and the words specifically that he spoke pulled Rowan’s line of sight back up to Logan’s face, coughing a few times, realizing that yes, he had in fact been doing that, though it hadn’t been intentional at all. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to, I just…”

“It’s alright.. I know.” Logan hummed, nodding a little. Nothing was showing very obviously that the other was particularly perturbed by it or anything. He seemed unsurprised, really. Truth be told, it wasn’t exactly an uncommon reaction for people to have with him. “You were looking at the scars.”

It hadn’t been a question. And Rowan couldn’t say it was wrong. He gave him a meek smile, nodding a little sheepishly. “Um.. yeah… I was…” He itted. “It’s just… Well, I mean you don’t owe me an explanation of any kind.”

“No. I don’t.” Logan nodded, making eye with the other for a brief moment. “But, if you were to ask, I would give you one.” He made an ission of his own before breaking eye , glancing away for a moment, his arms coming to cross in front of him again. “You haven’t been rude at all; I’d be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that you won’t start now.” He clarified further. It wasn’t easy for him to say. His initial response was to always doubt people and their intentions. Especially when he didn’t know them all that well. But something in him just felt like he should trust the other.

Rowan’s eyes widened slightly at what Logan said. He’d been expecting the end of the conversation, for Logan to move on and go do something else now that all of this was over with. And he especially couldn’t help but notice Logan’s reaction to his own words. Just the other’s body language, the way he opened up a little and seemed to close off a little again immediately after. He was being vulnerable, he realized, and that… well, that seemed like something maybe a little bigger than it should have been, but it was to him.
