Memories etched in each bud

Blooming in twilight rains

Embracing her cold knees

Under billowing curtains.

Ancient castles did crumble

Where ever his touch grazed

Each stolen glance a whisper

A secret, a prayer.

In zither melodies she hid

Impossible dreams and old aches

Wonder which hurts worse—

A love once lost? Or a love in vain?

The waltz resumes, lithe on water

Footfalls leaving no trace

Shadows dance to flickering lamps

Awe-filled eyes, reflecting his face.

Oaths traced in the fleeting wind

Silent pleas for more time, more space

But she turns, and he bows— the waters still.

If this too ends, may it end with grace.

𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅

I kinda liked the imagery of two lovers dancing waltz on water. It screams ethereal, impossible and fragile. Like they shouldn't be, couldn't be, and yet it feels magical and dreamy. As I wrote more lines, it felt more and more personal lol I felt quite sad. Idk. It's rare to find someone who can hold your melancholy with gentle consideration. In hands that felt safe. I guess, this was written for that person after all. My thoughts of them couldn't help but bleed through the lines. -sigh- Yearning is a painful hobby pfft.
